Mid-century modern in the Sonoran Desert

From the outside, this home designed by architect Michael P. Johnson in Cave Creek, Arizona, resembles a long concrete box. From the inside, however, the home is a gallery, and the surrounding landscape is its art. With floor-to-ceiling sliding-glass windows on both sides, the spectacular views of the Sonoran Desert are impossible to ignore. The 3,072-square-foot home, which was built in 2007, appears weightless as it cantilevers over an arroyo 30 feet below. Two master suites and a one-bedroom guesthouse—as well as an Italian kitchen, spalike bathrooms with waterfall showers, large living and dining areas, and glass-railed decks—make the home a great place to entertain friends and family. Although secluded and private, the home is just minutes from shopping, art galleries, restaurants, museums, and parks and nature preserves.
